IKEASSEMBLY
Overview
Problem
Ikea furniture assembly process, even though designed to be easy and intuitive, can be very challenging for customers. Although IKEA provides a black and white manual with step by step instructions with illustrations, following the instructions while assembling the furniture often gets too overwhelming.
My role
Research and Design
Solution
A combination of an app, which employs video tutorials (3D) and image identification, and an optional clamping system, which provides physical help to the users.
Scope
48 hour-long design challenge
Design Constraints
The device should be flexible enough to be able to assist in any of the furniture in the Ikea catalogue.
The device should help the user from the point of unpacking to accomplishing the task.
There is no limit to cost, however if the cost should exceed $2k, provide justification as to why the UX element that puts the cost over is worth it.
Technology used/proposed should be either existing or within the reasonable future
